Two SA startups to battle it out in this year’s ‘Get In The Ring’ Competition

South African startups Newtech Rail and Adfire Creative M3dia’s iMORPH3D app emerged winners of this year’s Get In The Ring entrepreneurship challenge that took place in Johannersburg last effectively securing their place in the finals slated for later in the year in Colombia. The two startups came out tops after battling it out against seven other African startups in a pitching session in Johannesburg.

The two startups from South Africa will join twenty eight others from different regions on 14th March where they will undergo rigorous trainings and selection rounds. In the end, 6 of the most outstanding startups will be selected to pitch on the main stage during the award show. On March 15th, these 6 startups will battle in the pitching ring in the presence of a 4 champion jury and 500-1000 fans. From these 6 the best startup will be crowned global winner.

Get In The Ring pits contestants against each other in a boxing ring, where they have 30 ‘nerve wracking’ seconds to outline components of their business plans, while an interactive audience cheers them on.

It is a rapidly-growing international initiative launched in 2012, and is now contested by over 10,000 businesses in 80 countries.

The Get In The Ring competition made its debut last year in South Africa and is part of the Dutch House of the Future programme. The competition is brought to Africa by The REAL Entrepreneur Institute (trading as The REAL Success Network), in partnership with the Dutch Embassy in Pretoria, Bhive, North West University, Heineken, Sage One Accounting, City of Johannesburg, Business Engage, Ingweno, Flexible Workspace, TomTom, Innovation Hub, Silicon Cape and Uncovering Greatness. Additional supporting sponsors include Mammoet, TU Delft, NRF, KLM and Royal Haskoning DHV.

Newtech Rail, formed last year by Industrial engineer and VUT Director of Innovation Jan Jooste, has developed three significant power line breakthroughs set to take a chunk of a global, multi-billion dollar power industry pie.

iMORPH3D is a mobile app that enables users to create their own anamorphic 3D illusions, allowing events companies, advertising agencies or consumers to create new and exciting artwork. The app, iMORPH3D, is now available in the Apple and Android app stores, so that anyone can have fun creating amazing 3D illustrations.
