Apple’s newest additions the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launched in South Africa on Friday.
According to the iStore, the recommended retail price of the iPhone 5c in SA is R8 499 for the 16GB version, going up to R9 999 for the 32GB version of the device, marketed as a budget offering.
The iPhone 5s on its part, will retail at R9 999 for the 16GB version and climb to R12 999 for the 64GB device.
Major networks Vodacom and MTN will offer the device on contract.
On Vodacom, the 16GB iPhone 5c will be offered at a starting subscription of R399 per month and the 5s will be offered at R469 on a 24 month Smart S contract.
MTN has opted to offer the iPhone 5c at R279 on an MTN AnyTime 100 contract with 300MB bonus data. The price is an indicator that the operator is intent on increasing its market share among consumers.
For the iPhone 5s, MTN will the device at a starting subscription of R429 for the 16GB capacity smartphone.
The iPhone 5s sports the Apple-designed A7 64-bit chip, an 8 megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash and Touch ID.
The iPhone 5c features a new design, a 4-inch Retina display, an A6 chip, and an 8 megapixel iSight camera.
Both devices run the iOS 7 operating system.
To cater for the expected demand, iStores across the country opened at 07:00 on Friday 15 November. The iStore in Vodacom World opened at 05:00.
