According to rumors making rounds, Samsung plans to announce both the Galaxy Note 3 and mysterious “Gear” on the 4th of September, which happens to be on the eve of probably the biggest tech event left this year – IFA 2013. If the launch date is indeed correct, it would give the Korean tech giant a little time to gain momentum before Apple launches its iPhone 5S and fifth-generation iPad later in the fall.
The Galaxy Note III is expected to feature a 5.7-inch full-HD display with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920-pixels, Snapdragon 800 and Exynos 5 Octa variants, plus 3 GB of RAM, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, 13 MP camera with optical image stabilization and LTE-Advanced speeds.
Meanwhile, Samsung remains mumin regards to its rumored first smartwatch. While Samsung hasn’t been shy about its desire to build a new smartwatch, they haven’t;been forthcoming as to what that wristwear could look like.
However, Moveplayer has uncovered a trio of Korean design patents that, combined, could represent a design template. Registered between March and May, the patents show a watch with both Android-style controls in the middle and a prominent flexible display. The device looks plausible, but we wouldn’t leap to conclusions — companies frequently patent designs that won’t necessarily ship.
There’s also no clear connections to a previously filed Gear trademark associated with wearable technology. If Samsung ever releases a watch in this mold, though, it will at least seem very familiar.
