After making its first international expansion to the UK last year, Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects made its move to yet another international market – Canada.
Kickstarter announced the news on its website earlier today, with absolutely no additional details, other than the vague time frame.
The service has gotten a lot of attention from the gaming industry, where it has been used to fund games, consoles, and virtual reality headsets, just to name a few.
This is great news for Canadian creators, and should help alleviate many of the hoops required for project founders to jump through in order to use Kickstarter currently.
If the launch will be anything like the UK launch, Canadian projects will be listed alongside US-based ones but will show Canadian dollar prices.
Kickstarter has been slow to roll out its international platform expansions, and is clearly picking prime targets based on community demand.
There’s no official date for the launch of Kickstarter Canada, but since it’s already summer, the wait can’t be long now.
Anyone interested in finding out more can sign up at Kickstarter’s Canada launch page with their email and project category of interest to get an alert when things go live.
