Choosing a laptop for work can be a daunting task. Laptops chosen for different activities have different sorts of needs. It is supported by Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and comes with Lenovo RapidDrive SSD technology which considerably reduces the booting time and the overall I/O operations. Lenovo’s keyboards are traditionally comfortable to work with, no wonder T520 comes with a very comfortable one. There is a 720p camera, built-in finger print protection and features like ‘Instant Resume’ which reconnects to Wi-Fi without delay. Priced at around Rs 45k, the laptop is really good for a start.

It is a very robust laptop, best suited for professional who travel a lot. To stress the point, it should be mentioned that the chassis is both spill and drop resistant, and the LCD lid can take some gentle knocks. It too comes with a 15.6 inch screen, with the standard 1366 x 768 pixels laptop resolution screen. The screen has great contrast and color rendering, however, the viewing angle isn’t very wide. It has a boot up time of less than 55 seconds and provides backup of around 3 hours, even with a DVD running. The laptop comes with built in finger print recognition and Acer’s backup software which is far more intuitive than Windows native tools. At around Rs 40k, the laptop is a great buy.

UX31E is superlight and looks awesome. It is a powerful machine, has a 1.7 GHz Intel Core i series processor. It comes with 4 GB RAM and a fast SATA SSD, which lowers the booting time and also enhances the performance. The screen can feel a bit small at 13.3 inch, especially if you are accustomed to large screens. However, the resolution is great at 1600-by-900 pixels. In terms of connectivity, there’s no Ethernet port. You would have to make do with a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. There’s one USB 2.0 port and another USB 3.0. Then there’s the SD card reader, and Wi Fi of course. The selling point of the Zenbook is its light weight. It weighs less than 1.1 kg and is very thin at around 0.8 inch. These specs, along with its superfast boot up, and a great battery life make it great for business usage. The price is a little steep at around Rs 90k, but it’s worth paying.

From top to bottom, VAIO Z smells like a laptop designed for professional. It comes with second generation Intel Core i family, clocking at 2.80 GHz, along with Turbo Boost of 3.5 GHz, add to that the SSD hard drive and a high definition LCD Screen. The screen has a size of 13.1 inch, and has a resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels. It also has 8 GB of RAM, which enables it to deliver high end graphics. There’s no Ethernet port of course. It comes with a HDMI, Wi-Fi and two USB ports. The laptop is a showcase of packing power inside a thin and light chassis. Also there are enhanced security features like finger print recognition and a security chip. It is a premium laptop and comes at a premium price of Rs 1.6 lac.

No laptop list would be complete without mentioning a MacBook. As the name suggests, MacBook Pro is meant to be for professionals. Its latest edition comes with Retina Display. It has over 5.1 million pixels! It goes without saying how crisp and clear the screen looks. Also, it is 15.4 inch in size, making it a treat for photography professionals. As of the other features, it comes with Intel’s Quad Core i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM and NVidia chip for graphics. It comes with 256 GB of SSD, in which 1 GB of memory is dedicated only for handling the graphics demands. Mac OS X Lion is another great thing about it, especially for those who are bored with Windows. The best thing about MacBook Pro is its Retina Display and OS X Lion. It comes at around Rs. 1.52 Lacs.
