How to Make Someone a VIP in the Mail App on Your iPhone

Making someone a VIP in the “Mail” application on your iPhone will help you make sure that you never miss a message from that person again. Once someone is a VIP, all e-mail messages that they send to you will be added to a special folder on your phone. You won’t have to worry about their messages accidentally getting sucked into your e-mail provider’s SPAM filter or getting lost amount the other messages in your inbox. Making someone a VIP in the “Mail” app on your iPhone will only take a few quick seconds.

Step 1

Open the “Mail” application on your iPhone by tapping its icon one time. By default, the most recently viewed folder will display on screen automatically. If the last folder you viewed was your e-mail inbox, for example, your e-mail inbox will display on screen at this time.

Note that if you have not already done so, you will need to add an e-mail account to your iPhone before you can use the “VIP” feature. To do so, open the “Settings” application and follow the directions on screen in the “Mail, Contacts & Calendars” category.

Step 2

Locate a message that was sent to you from the sender that you want to elevate to VIP status on your iPhone. You can find an older message in a number of ways. If the message doesn’t exist in the folder that you’re currently viewing, tap the “Folders” button and select a folder where the message can be found. If a large number of messages exist in the folder you’re viewing, use your finger to pull downward on the screen to reveal the “Search” bar. Use the “Search” bar to search for the sender by name.

Step 3

Open the message that was sent to you from the sender that you want to elevate to VIP status on your iPhone. The specific message that you’re opening doesn’t make a difference, so long as it was sent to you by the appropriate person.

Step 4

Tap the “Move To” button at the top of your iPhone to reveal a list of folders where you can move the current message. One of the folders on screen will be labeled “VIP.”

Step 5

Tap the “VIP” folder one time. The message that is opened on your iPhone will be added to that folder. The sender of that message will be elevated to “VIP” status on your device. You will now no longer have to worry about missing messages from that particular person thanks to the VIP feature, which will automatically single out messages from that person from the rest of the messages you receive. You can elevate as many people as you’d like to VIP status.
