4 Ways to Impress your Boss on your First Week at Work

The corporate world is a battle field. It will take extreme effort to get promoted year after year. But you have to remember that you need to get noticed first. Well, you can do that even on the first week of your work. The tips I have below are so easy to do and they are subtle.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You graduated at the top of your class. Your professors believe that you are so smart. Your classmates ask you about practically anything. Yes, you might be good in school but there’s one thing that I want you to remember. School and work are two different things. At work, everyone and everything is back to zero. You will need to start from scratch. It doesn’t matter if you are the crème de la crème in your University. Be humble enough to ask questions. But be considerate that your officemates are busy too. What you can possibly do is to write down all your questions. Send them an email and ask them their most available time. Invite them for a small meeting. It’s very professional and your eagerness to learn will impress them too.

Be friends with your colleagues. It’s very simple to break the ice. You don’t have to shake hands with all your officemates. You can simply give them a sweet smile. During breaks, you can ask your colleagues if you can sit with them. Don’t just make friends within your department. Broaden your network by meeting people from other teams.

Do your assignment. Your boss would likely provide you with things that you need to learn. Don’t wait for them to teach you those items. As I have said, they can get pretty busy. Try to learn on your own. You can also ask your Human Resource representative to provide you with materials which can help you understand the work flow of your company. I’m sure that they would be happy to share those with you. Your boss will be impressed knowing that you don’t need to be supervised that much and that you are proactive in learning the whatnots of the company.

Volunteer to do work – related task. Check your company’s presentation template. See if it’s pleasing. If not, why don’t you revise it? Why don’t you look at the contact details of your clients? Suggest to your superiors that you will update it accordingly. You can also arrange the cluttered files. Those tasks might be little, but you can also learn from those. And again, your superiors will be happy with that.

See, these are very easy to accomplish, right? Start your corporate life and you will be stepping in the ladder faster than anyone else.
